Worship Leader

Sarah Lynn grew up a preacher’s kid in Portsmouth, Va. At the age of 4, she began training in classical piano. Although she played the piano at church growing up, and began leading worship at student camps in high school, she did not consider herself a worship leader until a pastor her junior year of college called her one. Those words changed the trajectory of her life. She and her husband of 17 years, Matt, have worked in churches in Buxton, NC, Chesapeake, VA, helped plant a church in Eugene, OR, and have been with Discovery Church, in Simi Valley, for 6 1/2 years, where Sarah Lynn is the Worship and Programming Director. Sarah Lynn's heart is to connect people to God not only through music but by helping people connect to God in their everyday lives, seeing their lives as worship.

When Sarah Lynn is not leading worship at Discovery, you can find her at the beach with her family, running, or cheering her kids, Enoch (14) and Indie (12), on at a dance competition. Her favorite chapter of the Bible is Romans 12 which ends with her favorite verse: "Do not be overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good."

  • Prayerful heart

Enid Chiang became a Christian 21 years ago. Six months after her conversion, at the prompting of the Lord and with the fear that her children were not brought up in a Christian home; she was moved to pray urgently for her boys. She invited a few ladies from her children’s school to pray with her. To her amazement, 15 women joined her in prayer for the school and its students. That is also where she learned about Moms In Prayer (MIPI).

Enid joined MIPI as a group member and eventually became a group leader. Few years later, Enid became a Liaison for MIPI Spanish in Southern California and soon after, she was invited to become the International Leadership Developer for South America. Enid is currently a Country Helper for Spain working directly with MIPI leadership in Europe. Enid has witnessed the transformation in mothers' lives through the power of prayer.

Enid is a wife and mother. She was a housewife and worked at her husband Philip’s dental practice for a number of years until his retirement. She and Philip have been married for 33 years and are currently enjoying retirement, traveling and doing some mission work whenever possible.

She is the mother of two wonderful young men who are both working and living in Los Angeles.

  • Hula body worship

    Stephanie Hessemer:

Five years ago I moved to Thousand Oaks from Maui where I had lived for 13 years along with my husband, David, and our children.  While on Maui, I started dancing hula with a secular halau (hula group).  As much as I loved the actual dancing, it never felt right that so many of the songs acknowledged ancient Hawaiian gods.  Then, while attending church one day, I saw Worship Hula for the very first time and knew that I could never dance hula again unless it was to honor the Lord in worship.  I became part of a worship halau for 12 years and served in leadership of the worship arts ministry of a large church on Maui. Whether worshipping God through hula myself or whether teaching others how to do the same, it has become my passion to dance for an “Audience of One”.  When hula stops being about performing and instead becomes about truly praising God, others are drawn into worship too.

Fanny Lai grew up in Los Angeles as a pastor's kid.  After graduating college she went to seminary at Talbot and served at her church doing youth, women's and children's ministry.  After 8 years, she resigned from full-time church work in order to be a stay-at-home mom.  Her daughter, Rachel, is now 9 and was born with a rare genetic disorder that causes her to be quadriplegic and non-verbal. Fanny still speaks at her previous church once a month, she enjoys reading mystery novels, going to Disneyland, eating dessert and spending time with family and friends.
